Oscar Castillo knew his love for music was serious at the age of 7 yrs old when he learned someone had broken his guitar accidentally and he was more upset over that than he had ever been about anything else.  The next 7 yrs would dictate his love for it.  He started learning how to play on his own, listening to the groups who had influenced him so much and trying to play along note-by-note to their music.  This method allowed Oscar to pick up the necessary skills and techniques with playing guitar.  During this time he explored music a lot, gaining a big interest in the hip hop culture as well as dabbling with production and finally, his obsession for sneakers.

When Oscar turned 16 he gained his first job in the sneaker world as a writer for Sneaker Files.  He worked this job for about 3 yrs before becoming a writer for Nice Kicks.  The 4 yrs he spent as a writer and his dedication to the sneaker game ultimately strayed him away from music, but sparked an interest to start his own site and Modern Notoriety was born.

Today, Modern Notoriety is one of the nation’s most influential online sneaker magazines with a track record of over 15,000 site hits a day, the title of being an official E-Bay seller as well as being one of the most respected individuals in the sneaker community nation wide.

Oscar approached Scheme and DJ Scend with some YouTube videos of himself playing guitar melodies over Scheme’s “Billion Dollar Dream” video in the early parts of 2011.  They both sat down and after watching them came to one thought, “this guy needs to be on our team”.  Oscar was than brought in for some meetings and his role as the official SRNC Guitarist was born in the Spring of 2011.  He immediately became very comfortable adjusting to the demands of being a “studio guitarist” with recording melodic overlays and solos for Scheme’s music.

Oscar Castillo has made a name for himself and is well respected in the sneaker community, but his love for music brought him to cross paths with the SRNC team and he’s determined to make that same staple for himself in the music industry.  Be sure to keep your ears open to the projects to hear what magic he will overlay next!
